​The earliest known record of the house dates back to 1590, identified as the Casal de Cerqueda. It served as a representation of the administrative division of the territory at the onset of the modern age. This division was characterized by the classification of lands into "Casais", "Reguengos" and "Villas". The Casal de Cerqueda was involved in agricultural activities, comprising several family units that managed the plots forming the casal. The property underwent a significant expansion in 1750, and further developments in 1820 included the construction of a chapel and a winery.

The house played a crucial role during the Peninsular Wars, particularly in the organization of local militias. Members of these militias were drawn from the family units working the plots, receiving military training from the head of the Casal de Cerqueda, known as the "Senhorio". This individual held ordinance duties delegated by the royal authority of the time. These militias were notably significant in defending the banks of the Tâmega River in the Amarante region during the Second French Invasion.

The house features a trapdoor that provides access to a large chest used for storing cereals, thereby safeguarding these supplies from requisition by invading troops during wartime.

From the 1960s onwards, the agricultural estate's importance in the region's economic development declined. It was not until the early 21st century that rehabilitation initiatives emerged, incorporating tourism activities which we now pursue.
